Club Highlights: American Sign Language Club

By: Kylie Quigley

Languages are wonderful ways to communicate with people and across the world. There are thousands of different languages and dialects. One of these languages is American Sign Language, which provides a unique way for people to communicate by using their hands. At Henderson we are lucky to have an ASL club that teaches our students!

ASL Club is run by Mrs. Schneider, who holds meetings on Thursdays at 7am in her room 248. Meetings are run by two to three students who volunteer to learn signs relating to a certain topic or phrase and then teach them to other students. The students who volunteer to teach will pick a topic, research signs, learn them, and then present and teach to the club. ASL club is a fun, low pressure way to hang out in the morning with lots of cool learning. Paige Coulson, who is a member of the club, likes learning the signs because she thinks it's a cool language and mode of communication. Riley Bender, another member of the club, likes how by using ASL you can communicate without speaking or from far away.

If you are interested in joining the ASL club, come to a meeting or see Mrs. Schneider! Anyone and everyone is welcome to come learn!
