Henderson Help: How to De-Stress

By Madison O’Malley and Macie Burt

Going into the 3rd marking period of the school year can be very challenging, not only because of the heavy workload but because of the lack of motivation found within many (if not most) students. We’ve compiled a list of things that help us wind down and de-stress, and we hope they’ll help you too!

  1. Headspace: Headspace is a free meditation app you can install on your phone that can play calming sleep sounds, give you meditation-videos, and generally help ease your mind after a long day of school or to help you fall asleep.

  2. Listen to music: After lots of homework or tests, laying down or just doing odd jobs around the house while listening to music can be really relaxing, and it can help you unwind from a busy day.

  3. Re-watch one of your favorite TV shows or movies: Rewatching an old favorite is perfect for shutting off your brain and relaxing for an hour or two. The mindless entertainment mixed with already knowing what happens next leads to a perfect anxiety-free evening with your favorite characters.

  4. Hang out with a pet: It has been scientifically supported that pets help lower levels of cortisol, or the “stress hormone”, and relieve you of plenty of bad chemicals. Sitting down with your dog or cat for only half an hour could be the perfect thing to boost your mood.

We hope these tips can help you de-stress and continue doing a great job on upcoming work and exams during the final two marking periods this year!
