With all the natural disasters and discussions on climate change, this year is a great opportunity to make an impact on the environment. Environmental Club is a perfect place to be involved and make our community a greener place!
The club has participated in cleaning highways and beaches several times every year. Recently, there was a trash cleanup in downtown West Chester, picking up a wide variety of litter, ranging from cigarettes to glass bottles to masks. There were also various activities to enforce recycling at Henderson. Green and red posters about recycling were made by Environmental Club last year, and the club has been advocating to have recycling bins outside the front of the school as well.
At the end of every school year, members of the club can participate in Envirothon, where they compete against other schools to demonstrate their knowledge of environmental science.
Members of the club can also just enjoy nature by hiking and spending time with the community! There have been hikes at various parks and preserves, including Cheslen Preserve and Kenmara Park.
COVID or not, Environmental Club has plans to make the world around us cleaner:
Tuesday, October 13 - Letter writing at the gazebo at Henderson
Saturday, October 24 - Beach cleanup at Wildwood, New Jersey
Saturday, October 24 - Mt. Bradford Preserve Cleanup
Thursday, November 5 - Tree planting at Strouds Preserve
Tuesday, November 10 - Highway cleanup at Fern Hill Rd., West Chester
Participating in these types of activities can help with volunteer hours while making our community a little bit greener! To receive new updates, join the Schoology group by entering the code GS4TG-N28BP, and follow the club’s Instagram page @hendyenviroclub. Environmental Club meets on Tuesdays after school at 2:00 PM.
