While Pennsylvania may seem dull, especially during unprecedented times like these, it is refreshing to remember that PA is home to an array of major artists. Taylor Swift, Mac Miller, Andrew Wyeth and other artists have gone on to become incredibly influential, even changing pop culture and art as we know it. They give similar artists a sense of hope, that growing up in Pennsylvania gives you plenty of opportunities to be successful. While there are a great deal of Pennsylvanian artists who have made it big, there is also a mass of upcoming artists who deserve recognition in PA. You may be surprised to learn that some of your future favorite artists are from right here in Chester County!

Dr. Dog

To start off, we have a band that is only gaining more traction by the day, Dr. Dog. This group formed at West Chester University, with some of its members growing up in West Grove Pennsylvania. They recorded their first album, “The Psychedelic Swamp,” during the late 90s in a West Chester Pennsylvania basement. Although this album was never calculated for release, the band made a bright decision to release it in 2001, kick-starting their career. Today, Dr. Dog has racked up over two million monthly listeners on Spotify. Their most popular song from The Psychedelic Swamp, “Bring My Baby Back,” has gained over 290,000 views on YouTube, while their overall most renowned song labeled “Where’d All the Time Go?” has resulted in nearly 43,700,000 Spotify streams. The psychedelic rock/pop band is now performing at countless music festivals and touring nationwide, with exceptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A band which started with intentions to only play for free and for self-satisfaction has taken off tremendously, all while having the pleasure of calling Chester County their home.
